It's a funny thing how a simple piece of architecture and the landscape it was laid upon can create a following among a sub culture of America for multiple generations. As skate spots go, Carlsbad High School gap had a pretty average life span, but was more so a proving ground than almost all of the famous spots in skateboarding history.
Kris Markovich was featured on the January 1994 cover of Transworld kickflipping the gap. Since then the spot has featured jam style contests, had it's own ON Video exclusive, and even had it's own approach to it in the video game world. To conclude this spot's historic presence, naturally it was also covered by San Diego FOX news.
On February 23, 2012, Kris Markovich was the last person to ever hit the gap.
It's presence in the world of social networking has been pretty huge these past few days. But not a surprise considering the impact this location has had on the skateboarding world for the past 20 years. It's a funny thing, architecture...
